FREE LOS NATIVOS EP

St. Paul, MN natives and Rhymesayers originating members Los Nativos released a 3 song EP on 4-20-10 aptly titled "White papers" and is themed around a certain holiday that took place the very same day...yeah. You can head to Rhymesayers official webstore The Fifth Element to download it for free.

"Although Los Na has been quiet recently, you better believe they are always working on something like music, art or organizing! While working on new music for their next release they came across 3 songs that fit the theme for April 20th (4:20). In true Los Nativos fashion these are not your typical “weed” songs. From concepts of using the “topic” of the day as a tool to make money and the moral struggle around it, to the desire of law enforcement to catch certain people or class of people with anything illegal, or it’s cultural and medicinal use to just smoking. What ever your thoughts on the day maybe you will enjoy the music. Maybe more if you smoke one first!"

STREAM THE NEW FLYING LOTUS RECORD RIGHT NOW!

Head over to Paste Magazine's website to stream the whole "Cosmogramma" album right now. Or you can hit his Myspace page up and it's streaming there as well.

To commemorate the release of the album Flying Lotus and Co. have thrown together a pretty sweet little App for you to download right to your PC or Mac called "Cosmogramma Fieldlines" which is described as "an augmented reality application which can be controlled with your mouse or webcam." Looks pretty dope.

He's also got some pretty baller games to play on his website. Destroy or Attack.

There's also a pretty gnarly mix that The Gaslamp Killer threw together called "A Decade of Flying Lotus" which you can download here by right-clicking-save-asing!

INTRODUCING MT. DESOLATION

No doubt you've heard of Platinum Joy Division wannabe's The Killers right? What about UK superstars Keane? Have you heard of Mumford & Sons...they've toured and backed Laura Marling? What about Noah & The Whale? Well lucky for both parties, being you've heard of them or not, members of each group have formed a somewhat supergroup and are putting the finishing touches on their record right now.

Bio taken from the groups official website.

"Those who have visited Dublin will know that sipping Guinness by a fire in a nice old pub while it's chucking it down outside is one of life's great pleasures. It's also, as you can probably imagine, the perfect setting for eagerly hatching wild ideas and schemes. And so on one such blustery and cold night in September two friends, Tim Rice-Oxley and Jesse Quin decided (whilst in wildly animated conversation about music and probably also well on their way to needing a taxi home) that they would make a country album. As with so many ideas that come about on a belly full of Jameson's, in the cold light of day it did not seem like such a good plan. Two English men trying to sing like Hank Williams was definitely a recipe for disaster. The whole thing was forgotten about in the time it took to recover from the headache that morning. But the headache was to return.

Out of the blue a couple of months later Tim emailed Jesse a rough demo of 'Departure'. Not wanting to be outdone, Jesse vollied back a demo of 'Annie Ford'. Before they knew it there were half a dozen songs and without really putting much planning into it, the idea to make a record was resurrected.

Enlisting the help of friends from various other bands the newly formed group went into Eastcote studios in London at the snowy start of this year. With production wizard Emery Dobyns patiently manning the controls, the idea was to record as much of the album live as possible, in true country style. For the finishing touches, they experimented with whatever extra noises they felt like (cue dustbin lids, anvils, bullhorns and heavily distorted theremins) and a supporting cast of friends who would regularly stop by and add their ideas, whether invited or not.

The end of the recording sessions marked the end of the first chapter of the story. The band had revelled in the joy of making music without any motive other than just doing what they loved. As Mt Desolation begins its second chapter, the fun and excitement of making the music remains, except now instead of being confined to a recording studio it's being taken on the road to share with anyone who wants a part of it."

This compilation is actuslly very very good and features just a ton of local hip-hop talent, names you've undoubtedly heard before. Most of the songs are exclusive to this comp. which was created in to celebrate a messageboard that most held near and dear to their hearts...http://www.dunation.com/

Sadly "DU" is a rancid shriveling shell of it's former self and a maggot infested (spammers) deserted wasteland that most ex-loyal users still check up on but choose not to post simply for the fact it hurts them too much in their soles to contribute. But, this comp. released back in like 2006 maybe.

STREAM THE NEW PRONOGROPHERS NEW ALBUM RIGHT NOW

Head over to NPR right now to stream what will undoubtedly be one of the years best records. The New Pornographers "Together" has Neko case, AC Newman and Dan Bejar fighting for the spotlight in each track and the record is amazing.

"The New Pornographers' fifth album, Together, strings together another string of unimpeachable pop gems, whether they're lush Neko Case- and Kathryn Calder-sung ballads ("My Shepherd"), weird Dan Bejar-sung seethers ("Silver Jenny Dollar") or grandiose A.C. Newman-sung blowouts ("The Moves"). Newman, Case and Bejar all get their due here, with the help of contributors both permanent (Calder, guitarist Todd Fancey, et al) and transient (Okkervil River's Will Sheff, St. Vincent's Annie Clark, Beirut's Zach Condon, the horns of The Dap-Kings).

These are the songs of summer -- it's no surprise that The New Pornographers' records tend to come out near the middle of the year -- with more than enough staying power to outlive the season. Together will stream here in its entirety until its release on May 4" - NPR.org Share

ARCADE FIRE/SPIKE JONZE FILM?

(via Pitchfork)

A spokesperson for Spike Jonze tells MTV that the visionary director "will be in Austin shooting a short film which is a collaboration with Arcade Fire." This confirms an initial rumor reported yesterday on fan site Joel's Arcade Fire Blog and picked up by /Film, who added that the short involves teenage friends growing apart.

Further details are scarce, but Arcade Fire are due to release a new album later this year-- they've already got some festival gigs lined up. Could this be an extended music video a la Jonze's recent mini-epic for Kanye West, "We Were Once a Fairytale"? No word from Arcade Fire's people yet. Share

REST IN PEACE GURU

I Found out this morning as did the rest of the world that Keith Elam, better known as GURU of the legendary rap crew Gangstarr passed away last night. As you may or may not have known he had an Ali/Frasier type of battle with cancer and suffered a brutal heart attack in march that left him in a coma for a brief stint. He will be missed dearly by all in the hip-hop community and remembered for paving the way for most rappers you know of.

STEREOGUM PRESENTS: ENJOYED...A TRIBUTE TO BJORK

Introduction
After completing and launching Drive XV, our tribute to R.E.M.'s Automatic For The People, we gathered at 11th St Bar one night to figure out which album we should tackle next. OKX, our inaugural step into the compilation world, had been a no-brainer: 2007 was OK Computer's 10th Anniversary, and we wanted to honor the milestone. This time, though, when we started off thinking of possibilities based on release dates -- Drive XV was celebrating 15 years of Automatic after all -- nothing seemed quite right. (We've already discussed our decision not to go with the recently 10-year-old In The Aeroplane Over The Sea, for instance.)

After discarding our release-date almanac, someone suggested Björk. It was late, and we don't remember who said what, but it was a great idea. Debut, her first post-Sugarcubes album came out in 1993, which could count for a nice and even 15 years in 2008, but Post was the obvious choice: It's a stronger album top to bottom -- a culmination of her work to that point. It includes any number of iconic tracks and due to the richness and variety of Björk's self-described "spastic" palette, an infinite number of interpretive possibilities. Think, for example, of "It's Oh So Quiet," Björk's big-band cover of Betty Hutton's "Blow a Fuse," the almost industrial noise of "Army Of Me," the wispy, avant ambiance of "Cover Me," etc. When we spoke with Björk about her thoughts on Post, our choice seemed even more appropriate.

I listened to it when we did the surround mixes of it like two or three years ago [Note: Post was re-released in 2006 with surround sound mixes] and I have to say I was kinda surprised how the odd spastic thing of the album had actually aged well. I was very aware of it at the time that I needed to be musically promiscuous and have almost every song [a] different mood/style and so on. The picture on the cover is me on Piccadilly Circus (Times Square of London) too excited, too many things, Bright Lights Big City kinda thing, and me eager to consume. So my musical heart was scattered at the time and I wanted the album to show that.

Completing Enjoyed took a number of hands and plenty of elbow grease. We are deeply thankful to Björk for taking time out of her tour to answer our questions and offering commentary. Þakka þér kærlega, Björk! We'd also like to thank to Scott Hansen for his gorgeous album art, Phillip Klum for the absolutely amazing job mastering the project, the video team of Jon McMillan/Matt Neatock/Raphael Rodriguez/Shea Hess for shooting the band interviews, everyone at Sacks & Co., and Haukur S. Magnússon for help with our Icelandic. Finally, a major major thank you to all the bands for their participation -- folks juggled hectic tour and personal schedules and managed to get us amazing interpretations of Björk's originals. All is much appreciated.
